Canterbury’s ‘Welcome to the City’ Tour
For groups visiting Canterbury and Kent, Canterbury Historic River Tours is proud to announce our ‘Welcome To The City Tour’ for groups arriving in Canterbury before 11am in the morning.
Our guides will welcome groups arriving at Canterbury’s coach drop off point at Whitefriars and will offer passengers a free orientation tour of the city whilst showing them down to the tour departure point. Upon arrangement, we can also welcome groups at Canterbury’s Coach Park, just off Kingsmead Road.
Enjoyable time on the river
Matthew was our guide, rowing our boat along under the bridges and still giving us a fascinating, animated and enjoyable narrative of the turbulent history of this part of the river in Canterbury. I would love to hear him do a tour based on Christopher Marlowe!

Great Tour!
We very much enjoyed our tour with Rob. During the 45mins he explained very interesting facts about Canterbury’s and Englands history. His sense of humour and the beautiful view from the boat added to a lovely experience!

Great Fun!
There were 8 of us from work and our guide was Jacob very funny and entertaining. The ride down the river was really relaxing and a great way of seeing a bit of the city. Getting in and out of the boat was quite entertaining too but we all loved it, great experience highly recommended.

Fantastic!
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Hunter. He is a fabulous captain and excellent at giving historic information all whilst being comedic. We learned a lot of interesting historic facts and the scenery was lovely. A must visit!

These tours are available if pre-booked Monday-Friday March-October before 11am in the morning, weather and river conditions permitting. Book early as we see this as being a very popular introduction and means of getting into the city centre with the Cathedral and all the other main attractions situated only a couple of minutes away.

Speaking slowly and clearly our guides tailor the tour towards their target audience, taking into account competency with the English language and history.

The tour itself lasts 45 minutes. It is necessary to allow for up to one hour in order to allow the time needed for loading and unloading the boats.
Our ideal location in the centre of the High Street, and only a five minute walk from Canterbury Cathedral gates and coach drop-off points.
We can meet groups at their coach drop-off point upon request.
For groups of 12 or more, a discount programme is available. These discounts are dependent on total participating numbers and the time the tour will take place.
